The British School of Alexandria has strong community ethos and wants its parents to feel that they are an important part of the school. Parents are encouraged to take an active role in developing the family and community through fundraising and social events. All parents are valued, whether by attending Friends of the School (FOS) meetings, helping out in individual projects, or just by supporting organised events. The FOS hopes to support the staff and children and helps promote the school within the community.
Friends of the School meets once a month and organises various events such as an annual summer bazaar, social occasions and Easter competitions for each Key Stage. Any money raised at these events, unless otherwise stated, is divided equally between a charity and the school. The FOS tends to spend its money on luxury items that would not otherwise have been purchased by the school, and the main charity it supports at present is “Oeuvre Du Repas De Midi” which is a charity providing a hot meal for poor school children. Not only does the charity help the children that suffer from malnutrition, but it also ensures that they are educated (as the children have to attend school in order to be fed), thus hoping that the cycle of poverty is broken. They also make donations of items, such as our old school uniform to the Sudanese School and we make regular collections of dried food and second-hand toys to give to local orphanages. |
