The school was established in September 1984 in the grounds of the British Consulate, providing a British-based education to expatriate children aged 3 to 11 years.
In 1998 the school began a programme of expansion, developing a secondary school in nearby grounds and offering a high standard of British education to children of the Alexandrian community from Nursery to Year 12. By September 1999 the number of children on roll had risen from 81 to 183 and by September this had risen to 215.
With increasing numbers and a 2-form entry at Key Stage 1, the school acquired a new villa to house Key Stage 2 in September 2003. The grounds were substantial enough to create a purpose-built secondary school, in which Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 were relocated in early 2004.
The school is based on two sites within walking distance of each other. From September 2005, Foundation and Key Stage 1 children have been taught at the Mina Villa. Key Stage 2 pupils are based on the Main Site, in Consular grounds, where the Head Teacher’s Office and Administration Centre can be found. Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 pupils are accommodated in a new modern secondary building adjacent to the Mina villa.
The school recruits full-time teachers with British-recognised qualifications and local staff who provide part-time teaching, classroom support and administration.
